Before you order a Tesla: 5 things to check

A short list to run through before you click "Place Order" so a referral benefit and any state or utility incentives are not lost.

Last reviewed: August 2026

1. Confirm the product and trim are eligible

Tesla's current referral terms specify which vehicles, trims, and Solar products qualify. Some inventory or discounted trims are excluded. Check Tesla's official Refer and Earn page for the current list.

2. Use the referral link before checkout

Open the link first, then configure and order without detouring through a bookmark or search result. A referral cannot be added after the order is placed.

3. Verify the benefit shows in your Tesla account

At checkout and again in your Tesla account after the order, look for a referral or reward line. If it is missing, contact Tesla support before delivery.

4. Check state, local, and utility incentives

Referral benefits are separate from any state, local, or utility incentive. Some programs have deadlines or paperwork that must be completed before or shortly after ordering. See the incentives overview.

5. Understand what Tesla controls

Tesla sets the current benefit, eligibility rules, and can change or end the referral program at any time. Nothing shown here is a guarantee.

Checking the referral link before you order

If you plan to use a referral link at all, open it before you place the order. Any current benefit attaches to your Tesla account at checkout, and Tesla controls eligibility.

Check the Referral Link Before Ordering

Referral disclosure: If you use my referral link for an eligible purchase, Tesla may provide a buyer benefit to you and may provide referral credits or another benefit to me. I do not charge you for using the link. Tesla determines eligibility and benefits.
