Massachusetts EV incentives in 2026

Massachusetts runs one of the more generous state rebates left, but the MSRP cap decides whether your configuration qualifies. This page is educational, not tax or legal advice. Verify every program directly with the issuing agency, your utility, and the automaker before you place an order.

Massachusetts programs and current status

  • MOR-EV Standard

    Open

A $3,500 rebate on an eligible new battery-electric vehicle with a total MSRP of $55,000 or less. It can be taken at the point of sale through a participating dealer, or applied for within 90 days of purchase or lease.

    MOR-EV: eligibility and requirements

  • MOR-EV+ (income-qualified add-on)

    Open

Income-qualifying applicants can claim an additional $1,500 on top of the standard rebate. Eligibility is based on modified AGI thresholds or participation in a listed assistance program.

    MOR-EV: income-qualified rebates

  • MOR-EV Used

    Open

Income-qualified rebate for an eligible used EV bought from a licensed dealer with a final purchase price of $40,000 or less. Private sales do not qualify.

Federal context (2026)

The federal Clean Vehicle Credit for new EVs ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, so a new EV delivered in 2026 should not be assumed to qualify for the former $7,500 credit. The federal charger credit (Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit, Form 8911) applies only to qualifying property placed in service on or before June 30, 2026, and the residential clean energy credit for solar and battery storage (Form 5695, section 25D) ended for expenditures made after December 31, 2025. Confirm current rules with the IRS or a qualified tax professional.

Other things to check in Massachusetts

  • The total MSRP, not the price you negotiate, decides eligibility, so check the window sticker on the exact trim and options
  • You must keep the vehicle registered in Massachusetts for at least 36 consecutive months, and leases must run at least 36 months
  • Vehicles bought outside the state must be registered in Massachusetts within 90 days
  • Rebate funding is finite; applications close if funds are exhausted

Programs, funding, and eligibility change often. Verify with the Massachusetts energy office or the U.S. Department of Energy's alternative fuels data center before ordering.

Utility programs to check

  • Eversource Massachusetts EV charger rebates and managed charging
  • National Grid Massachusetts EV charger and off-peak rate programs
  • Municipal light plants such as Belmont and Concord with their own EV rebates
  • Mass Save home energy programs for panel and electrification work

Contact your utility directly for current rebates, EV time-of-use rates, and home charger install programs. Rules vary by service territory.

How the Tesla referral benefit fits in

Tesla's referral benefit is separate from any state, local, or utility program. A referral link may add a Tesla-provided buyer benefit on top of anything you qualify for through Massachusetts agencies or your utility. Use the link before you place the order, because Tesla does not apply a referral to an order that was already submitted. Tesla controls eligibility, current benefits, and program availability, and can change or end them at any time.

Before you order in Massachusetts

  • • Verify every Massachusetts, local, and utility program with the issuing agency
  • • Confirm eligibility for your specific model, trim, and delivery date
  • • Confirm the current Tesla referral benefit and whether your chosen configuration is eligible
  • • Use the referral link before checkout, then verify the benefit shows in your Tesla account
