Tesla referral code 2026: what it is and how it works

A Tesla referral code (usually shared as a link) is Tesla's way of giving a buyer benefit when a new customer orders through an existing owner's link. There is no cost to the buyer for using one. Tesla sets the current benefit and can change or end it at any time.

Who qualifies as a buyer

  • • Someone placing a new Tesla order who does not already have a Tesla account tied to a prior vehicle
  • • Ordering an eligible product and configuration (Tesla sets which products and trims are eligible each month)
  • • Clicking the referral link before placing the order

Products a referral typically covers

  • • Model Y (new order)
  • • Model 3 (new order)
  • • Cybertruck (new order, current terms may exclude some trims)
  • • Tesla Solar Panels

Used vehicles and inventory-only trims may not qualify. Verify on Tesla's site before ordering.

What the buyer benefit typically looks like

Tesla has offered short Full Self-Driving (Supervised) trials on vehicles and a small dollar discount on Solar Panels in recent cycles. The specific benefit changes over time. Always check Tesla's official Refer and Earn page for the current terms.

How to use a Tesla referral code

  1. Open the referral link on the device you plan to order from.
  2. Sign in or create your Tesla account through that session.
  3. Configure your vehicle or solar order and complete checkout.
  4. Confirm the referral benefit appears at checkout or in your Tesla account.

Common reasons a referral does not apply

  • • The link was not clicked before the order was placed
  • • The Tesla account already existed and had a prior vehicle purchase
  • • The chosen trim or product is not on the current eligible list
  • • The order was placed on a different device or in a different session where the link was not used

Checking the referral link before you order

If you plan to use a referral link at all, open it before you place the order. Any current benefit attaches to your Tesla account at checkout, and Tesla controls eligibility.
